ABOUT US

Lynda Carothers...Carothers Country Farm, Kelly Brown....Bred in BC Llama Company, and John and Chris Elbert...Hacienda El Sueno, purchased the pure Argentine Llama breeding herd from Paul and Sally Taylor in June of 2006. The Taylor's found and imported the first Argentine llamas from northern Argentina in 1997 with subsequent importations taking place in 1998, 1999, and 2001 bringing the total to 50. The majority of the breeding stock now reside at Carothers Country Farm located in SE Minnesota where Lynda, llama owner for 15 plus years, is the largest breeder of Argentine llamas in North America. In 2003 a few Argentine owners headed by Lynda began the Argentine Llamas Aficionados club. The group produces a quarterly newsletter and runs a website at www.argentinellamas.org where you can see a picture directory of most the Argentine llamas in the USA. Lynda Carothers has been raising almost exclusively Argentines for six years. Being the proprietor of a fiber mill she is still awed by the quality and abundance of wool in the Argentine fleeces. Many of her fleeces ranging from a lofty appearance to lustrous have won and placed in shows.

Kelly Brown, British Colombia, bought her first llama four years ago and like so many other llama owners was "bitten" from the get-go.. so much so that she had to buy a farm to go with her new found passion. A major fiber enthusiast and hand knitter, she was initially drawn to the Argentines for their copious and unique, dense fiber. Soon their heavy boned stature and overall exotic look had her hooked. Kelly sees enormous potential for the Argentines to contribute to the llama gene pool, improving both stature and fiber. During the last few years she has sought out quality animals with diverse bloodlines and is excited to see the Argentines start making their mark in North America. Kelly has very recently moved to her new farm and hopes to promote the Argentines in Canada.

John and Chris Elbert who live in Northwest Wisconsin have owned llamas since 1993. In 2004 they had their first half Argentine crias and fell in love with their very sweet dispositions and docile nature. These llamas went on to win blue ribbons for their fleeces and also 4H championships in showmanship and obstacle classes. Over the next two years they purchased full or part ownership in 11 more Argentine llamas. In the fall of 2006 they had two full Argentine crias. Four "youngsters" from the Taylor herd are also owned by the Elberts. They have changed their breeding program to producing only part or full Argentine Llamas.

We have diverse backgrounds but a very common passion and that is for these incredible, mellow, and exotic "Teddy Bear" Argentine Llamas!
